Cake, Cookies, & Confections

C is for Cake, Cookies, & Confections!

Who doesn’t love dessert?! We love how the old tradition of cake-cutting has grown to include a spread of cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, and, well, anything else you can think of! By mixing up what you offer, you all but guarantee that your guests will get something they like!

When it comes to dessert, the number one slice of advice we dish out is to think about what YOU like! If you were at a restaurant and wanted to order dessert, what would you get? Your answer should have a direct implication for your wedding day dessert! Don’t feel locked into serving something you’re not excited about just because it’s a tradition. Think outside of the box! If you’re in love with a combo of trendy iced sugar cookies, mini pies, and cake pops, do it!

Not wanting to forego the cake-cutting moment at the reception? It’s not a problem to have a small 8” or 10” cake for just the Bride and Groom. Get a small wedding cake, cheese cake, bundt cake, or even pineapple upside down cake for you two to cut into during the reception. The only time this is in poor taste is if you’re not offering dessert to your guests. If they watch you cut a cake, their mouths will be watering for some sort of confection!

If you opt for a traditional multi-tiered wedding cake, don’t forget the miscellaneous logistics that go with it. It’s not enough to coordinate with just the baker. You also will likely need to touch base with your venue rep, caterer, and rental rep. Talk to your venue and caterer about available fridge space for a cake that is delivered several hours before being served. Chat with the caterer about moving the cake to the dessert table and also about cutting and serving the cake to guests. Lastly, call your rental rep and add pates, forks, and of course a cake stand to put your beautiful cake on display.

The most important thing to remember is that there’s almost no wrong answers when it comes to choosing your confections. Get what you enjoy! You’ll thank yourself annually when ordering the same dessert to celebrate your anniversary.
